Wayne Manor

On my first night at St. Paul's College, my new Novice Director asked me how I was doing. I responded that I was doing OK, but at some point it was hit me: "Oh my God... I don't have a job any more and I don't have a house."

"Well, you have a new job to do, and you live in a mansion." he responded.

"Oh... good point."

The question I get most frequently aside from that "other" topic from people is, "What's the seminary like?" I usually respond that it's a lot like Wayne Manor. It's a very large building with lots of art work in it, cars are accessed from the bottom level, and residents are known for dressing in black.

Now the question I get most frequently AFTER people have seen the house I live in is... don't you take a vow of poverty? The answer is no; what we take is a promise of biblical simplicity. However, since one of the missions of the Paulists include media and hospitality, the community has a house that works to help enable those aspirations. So in that spirit, I thought I would share some pictures of St. Paul's College... it's also a good excuse for me to play around with the camera I got for Christmas.

These first two pictures are of our chapel. I tried to get creative on the second shot.

This is our common room where we frequently host guests and meet for cocktails before dinner.

This is one of two television rooms. The Super Bowl is this Sunday.

By far my favorite room in the house is the Library. It used to be the old chapel back when there were 100 seminarians living here. Now we have, including the five novices, ten.
